Your licensed guide will take you back in time as you pass several antebellum plantation homes surrounded by massive oaks, sugar cane fields, pecan grooves and Louisiana countryside.

You'll be impressed by the panoramic view of Lake Pontchartrain as you cross the Bonnet Carre spillway (the flood outlet of the Mississippi River).

Your first stop is San Francisco Plantation, built in 1856, the most distinctive and authentically restored plantation on River Road. Every effort was made to full restore the house to its most elegant period, circa 1860. It features five artistically hand painted ceilings, faux marbling and faux wood graining throughout and antique furniture by master craftsman John Henry.

Next you will tour beautiful Houmas House Plantation and Gardens. Set on twelve acres of lush Louisiana plant life and ancient oak trees, this magnificent plantation has been refurbished with period antiques, fixtures and furnishings from the 1800's, a time of glory for Southern Plantations.

Houmas House has been featured in historic literature and film, such as the novel "North and South," and "Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte" starring Bette Davis. One room in the house is dedicated to Ms. Davis, complete with photos and memorabilia from her filming and stay at the plantation. You may purchase lunch during the tour (cost for lunch is not included in tour price). The tour includes guided tours of two plantation homes and narrated motor coach transportation.
