A Westwego Swamp Adventure includes a swamp tour of Bayou Segnette on a custom built, all weather swamp boat. The tour is approximately 2 hours.

You will be treated to a Bayou nature wildlife presentation by a local Naturalist 15 minutes prior to each tour. Snakes, alligator snapping turtles, raccoons, and nutria will be among the animal guests.

Beginning with a Naturalist presentation at the dock, our two-hour excursions through the Bayou by a native captain will introduce you to the wetlands of Louisiana - their wildlife and ecological importance.

In advance of each tour, and at no additional cost, we provide an ecology/naturalist presentation where we introduce you to things that reflect the mysterious eco-nature of the swamp environment. Our swampland is currently disappearing at the rate of one football field an hour, and we are very concerned with maintaining this wonderful resource and ecosystem.

Swamp Tales

If there's anywhere in the world that is filled with legends and lore, it's Bayou Segnette, home of Westwego Swamp Adventures.

One of our favorite bayou stories is the legend of the Roux-Ga-Roux. The locals believe that if the Roux-Ga-Roux finds you (or you find it), you'll never be seen again ... because you become the Roux-Ga-Roux. Obviously we can't show you a picture of the Roux-Ga-Roux!

Don't worry, cher, we haven't lost anyone to the Roux-Ga-Roux yet. And you're sure to hear many more swamp tales when you join us for a Westwego Swamp Adventure.

Bayou Segnette's legends are just a fraction of what makes the Swamp Experience fun and interesting. The swamp is an incredible ecosystem blooming with life, and generations of native Cajuns have lived in fascinating harmony within nature's delicate balance.

Some of the things you'll learn on a Westwego Swamp Adventure will amaze you. For example, did you know that ...

An alligator can stay underwater for up to three hours?
Green-backed Herons "fish" by placing small floating objects on the water's surface to attract their prey?
Cypress trees get oxygen from their knees?
Spanish Moss is a flowering plant related to pineapples?
Cajuns used processed Spanish Moss to stuff their mattresses?
The word "bayou" comes from the Houma Indian word "bayuk" meaning slow moving river?

Since we have special exhibit permits to house and care for wild animals, we will also show you first hand live animals such as Swamp Owls, Birds of Prey, and even give you the opportunity to hold a baby alligator in your hand! Experience the mysterious and wonderful elements of our magical ecosystem.

This is followed by the best swamp tour in the business, conducted by genuine Cajun captains who live, hunt and fish in this magical environment.

Cancellation and No Show Policy

Cancellations within 24 hours of the tour are charged in full. Cancellations prior to 24 hours are charged a minimum $10.00 per person administration fee. We charge for NO SHOWS. No Shows on tour dates are charged 100%. Some specific tours and activities have a higher cancellation fee due to the limited space available.

Recommended for all tours in New Orleans Comfortable shoes, hats, visors and sunglasses.

Weather: Tour route or activity may be changed depending on local weather conditions.
